Our Services
Five Points Medical Center offers DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screening in accordance with applicable state
and federal laws. Our services include pre-employment drug testing, random drug testing, post-accident drug testing, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
The urine drug screening test is performed to detect the presence of illegal and some prescription drugs in urine. The presence of these substances may indicate the use of substances that could impair the performance in the workplace. Substances tested for include certain prescription medications, amphetamines, opioids, cocaine, benzodiazepines, oxycodone, barbiturates, methadone, fentanyl, and marijuana.
A breath alcohol test measures the amount of alcohol in the blood by testing exhaled air. The testing device uses that measurement to estimate a person’s blood alcohol content or BAC. Breath alcohol testing is necessary for safety sensitive occupations to ensure employee safety, efficiency, and overall good health. Five Points Medical Center performs pre-employment, random, post- accident, and reasonable suspicion breath alcohol testing.
Five Points Medical Center performs audiometric testing, also referred to as hearing testing. This test examines a person’s ability to hear sounds at various tones and intensity. As an employer, it is important to inform employees that hearing loss is preventable, offer hearing screenings, and teach them the hearing loss warning signs. Our technicians are CAOHC certified.
Vision testing is important for certain occupations, such as medical workers, those in the transportation industry, and for employees who operate heavy machinery or make critical decisions. Five Points Medical Center offers vision testing during pre-employment screening and as a part of a DOT physical examination, as required by the Department of Transportation for drivers with a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Pulmonary function testing is a complete evaluation of the respiratory system including patient history, physical examinations, and tests of pulmonary function. The primary purpose of pulmonary function testing is to identify the severity of pulmonary impairment. Five Points Medical Center performs Spirometry testing to assess how well an employee’s lungs work by measuring the amount of air inhaled, the amount exhaled, and how quickly the air is exhaled. This testing service is used to diagnose asthma, COPD, and other conditions that affect breathing.
If your employees work in a hazardous environment with harmful dusts, fumes, or gases, OSHA requires them to wear respirators. Five Points Medical Center performs respirator fit testing. A “fit test” tests the seal between the respirator’s facepiece and the face. This test takes about fifteen to twenty minutes to complete and is performed annually. Once an employee passes the fit test, the employee must use the exact make, model, style, and size respirator on the job.
Pre-employment medical exams are important for workforce safety. The physical tests job applicants to make sure they can safely perform the jobs required for the position.
A fit-for-duty exam ensures employers that the employee can safely perform specific duties as required for the job. These exams can be performed for employees who are working or who are returning to work. These exams are conducted if the employer has a concern regarding an employee’s medical condition and how the condition could impact workplace safety and performance.
A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is a health examination mandated by the Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. A DOT physical helps
determine if a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a commercial vehicle.
Commercial drivers are safety-sensitive employees; they perform a job that can impact their own safety
and the public’s safety. Employers of commercial drivers must comply with federal regulations for DOT
physicals.
When an employee suffers an injury at work, helping the employee recover promptly and safely with minimal business interruption should be the employer’s top priority. At Five Points Medical Center we take extra care to treat the person’s injuries or conditions to get them back to work in a timely manner, ensuring safety is the top priority. Our goal is to assist the employee with completing the treatment plan and to reduce medically unnecessary disabilities and lost-duty days.
Immunizations are important at any age to promote healthy employees. Implementing a corporate wellness program that includes vaccinations, along with biometric screening and education, can assist employees with understanding the importance of good health practices.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis: Everyone needs a booster every 10 years to maintain protection.
- Shingles (herpes zoster): One two-dose series for people over 50.
- Pneumococcal: People over 65, or younger adults with certain conditions such as heart disease or asthma, need a vaccination followed by a booster a year later for full immunity.
When fit-for-duty exams are performed for return to work, they’re called “return-to-work exams.” An employer may want a fit-for-duty exam for an employee who is completing treatment and is ready to return to work after a serious illness or injury. The information captured on a return-to-work exam assists employers in understanding if the employee can safely perform their job again and can return to work without risking re-injury.
