Pre-employment medical exams are important for workforce safety. The physical tests job applicants to make sure they can safely perform the jobs required for the position.

A fit-for-duty exam ensures employers that the employee can safely perform specific duties as required for the job. These exams can be performed for employees who are working or who are returning to work. These exams are conducted if the employer has a concern regarding an employee’s medical condition and how the condition could impact workplace safety and performance.

Five Points Medical Center offers DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screening in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. Our services include pre-employment drug testing, random drug testing, post-accident drug testing, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.

The urine drug screening test is performed to detect the presence of illegal and some prescription drugs in urine. The presence of these substances may indicate the use of substances that could impair the performance in the workplace. Substances tested for include certain prescription medications, amphetamines, opioids, cocaine, benzodiazepines, oxycodone, barbiturates, methadone, fentanyl, and marijuana.

A breath alcohol test measures the amount of alcohol in the blood by testing exhaled air. The testing device uses that measurement to estimate a person’s blood alcohol content or BAC. Breath alcohol testing is necessary for safety sensitive occupations to ensure employee safety, efficiency, and overall good health. Five Points Medical Center performs pre-employment, random, post- accident, and reasonable suspicion breath alcohol testing.

Pulmonary function testing is a complete evaluation of the respiratory system including patient history, physical examinations, and tests of pulmonary function. The primary purpose of pulmonary function testing is to identify the severity of pulmonary impairment. Five Points Medical Center performs Spirometry testing to assess how well an employee’s lungs work by measuring the amount of air inhaled, the amount exhaled, and how quickly the air is exhaled. This testing service is used to diagnose asthma, COPD, and other conditions that affect breathing.

If your employees work in a hazardous environment with harmful dusts, fumes, or gases, OSHA requires them to wear respirators. Five Points Medical Center performs respirator fit testing. A “fit test” tests the seal between the respirator’s facepiece and the face. This test takes about fifteen to twenty minutes to complete and is performed annually. Once an employee passes the fit test, the employee must use the exact make, model, style, and size respirator on the job.
